Welcome to Grace

Dermot and DebraWelcome to our website. My name is Dermot and together with my lovely wife Debra and the most amazing team ever, we pastor Grace Church, a local Tasmanian church here in Clarence Plains. The Clarence Plains area comprises the suburbs, Clarendon Vale, Glebe Hill, Oakdowns and Rokeby. Situated 15 minutes from the Hobart CBD we’re easy to get to by car and we’re also on the Metro Bus route.

We’re a Christian church that believes in all generations and to that end we run a vibrant kids program every Sunday during our service as well as a terrific Youth program for our teenagers every Wednesday evening. Our regular men’s breakfasts and ladies events are always a hit.

Why don’t we hold church at the Grace Centre?

It’s a question that we often get asked and each time we tell people that we don’t hold church services at the Grace Centre because we want our local community to experience what it means to be loved by our church without any strings attached. We decided when we purchased the old Rokeby Tavern that we would create a meeting place for our local community, something that everyone could be proud of and benefit from. If we were to have church there then some people would think that we were only fixing the place up to grow our church and get people through our doors. By not having church at the Centre it takes our motive off the table as we’re not looking to benefit from the good that we do in our local community. Hopefully by putting our blood, sweat and tears where our mouths are, people will realise that we really do care about our community and maybe in some small way, we can then through our actions, point them towards the love that God has for each and every one of them.

“Although we may feel safest when we think we have everything worked out, trust is formed and developed in the in between places where you’re not sure. Maybe that’s why God values it so much? To love is the clearest demonstration of trust you can engage in. Now that’s something worth thinking about…”

WHAT WE BELIEVE

  • We believe that the Bible is God’s Word. It is accurate, authoritative and applicable to our every day lives.
  • We believe in one eternal God who is the Creator of all things. He exists in three Persons: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. He is totally loving and completely holy.
  • We believe that sin has separated each of us from God and His purpose for our lives.
  • We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ as both God and man is the only One who can reconcile us to God. He lived a sinless and exemplary life, died on the cross in our place, and rose again to prove His victory and empower us for life.
  • We believe that in order to receive forgiveness and the ‘new birth’ we must repent of our sins, believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and submit to His will for our lives.
  • We believe that in order to live the holy and fruitful lives that God intends for us, we need to be baptised in water and be filled with the power of the Holy Spirit.
  • We believe that God has individually equipped us so that we can successfully achieve His purpose for our lives, which is to worship God, fulfil our role in the Church and serve the community in which we live.
  • We believe that God wants to heal and transform us so that we can live healthy and prosperous lives in order to help others more effectively.
  • We believe that our eternal destination of either Heaven or hell is determined by our response to the Lord Jesus Christ.
  • We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is coming back again as He promised.
